Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your they are healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery.

6.  What is a pre-anesthetic blood screening?

This is a blood test that is run in our the clinic prior to surgery. It tests organ functions and blood counts of your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood screen is done to assure safety during surgery, and the ability to heal following surgery.

7. How long do the sutures stay in after my pet has surgery?

Procedures involving non-absorbable sutures or staples require them to be removed in 10 - 14 days following the surgery.

8.  Is it a good idea to let my pet have at least one litter?

No, there is no advantage to letting your pet have one litter. However there are plenty of advantages to having your pet spayed or neutered. These advantages include decreasing the chances of breast tumors later in life, decreasing the chance of cystic ovaries and uterine infections later in life, decreasing the desire to roam the neighborhood, decreasing the incidence of prostate cancer later in life, helping prevent spraying and marking, and also decreases the surplus of unwanted puppies and kittens.

9.  Do you board pets?

Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to board animals.  We maintain a list of pet-sitters and kennels in the area; however, we do not endorse any of these facilities.

10.  What are your surgery kennels like?

Our dog kennels are each approximately 6' x 3.5' and indoor. We provide each animal with a rug to lay upon and they are walked once they have woken up from surgery. Our cat kennels are housed in a separate room from the dogs, and each is approximately 3' x 2.5' in size.  We provide each cat with a rug to lay upon, and a litter box after surgery.  All animals are provided with water once they have woken up from surgery.
