News from the summer

"Salmon Poisoning" season is here! With the fishing season in full swing, we commonly see more dogs with "salmon poisoning." An organism from eating raw salmon, trout, or steelhead from NW ocean-fed streams causes this. Within 5-7 days the dog will go off his normal food and spike a temperature. The outcome with treatment at this time is very good. Waiting any longer than that increases the likelihood of longer hospitalization and death.

Fish Hooks! Please be careful when fly fishing... we see cats and dogs "hooked" so to speak!

This is tick season and we are seeing lots of them! A little extra grooming after walks will ferret out most of these parasites, and monthly treatment with Frontline will kill any that have attached that you may not find. Tick collars are also available and very affective.

Watch for pets chewing on outdoor plants... rhododendrons, lilies, azaleas, and bulbs are a few plants to be aware of their poisonous possibilities.

New flea/heartworm meds!!

Trifexis is here! We are fully stocked and excited to see this working. It also kills pet-to-people parasites such as round works as an added bonus!

A little about us: East lane is again a 2 doctor practice... We now have Dr. Shelly Knopsnyder working with us! We are mostly a small animal practice, but Dr. Brian will continue to work with your horses, cows, goats, etc. If you are already established with us. Dr. Shelly also has farm animal experience and will be able to help out there as well.

We still offer the same services... wellness care, dentistry, orthopedics, surgery, ultrasound, x-rays, after hours phone access, and behavior advice.

Saturday hours: We are open the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays, 9-1:00 PM. We are also open late on Wednesdays until 7 PM.

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Hotline

(888) 426-4435

There is a $65 consult fee for this service. However, their advice may save you a visit to the emergency hospital. You will receive a case number so that if they do advise that you take your pet to the veterinarian, the vet you see will work directly with the toxicologist at poison control.

The Pet Poison Helpline

(800) 213-6680

There is a $35 consult fee for this service. This is a newer organization, so we have less experience with their advice. However, they do have toxicologists and internists on staff, and will also follow up with your veterinarian.
